Electrostatic micromachine scanning mirror for optical coherence tomography.

چکیده
Compact electrostatic micromirror structures for use in the scanning arm of an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system are described. These devices consist of millimeter-scale mirrors resting upon micrometer-scale polyimide hinges that are tilted by a linear micromachine actuator, the integrated force array (IFA). The IFA is a network of deformable capacitor cells that electrostatically contract with an applied voltage. The support structures, hinges, and actuators are fabricated by photolithography from polyimide-upon-silicon wafers. These devices were inserted into the scanning arm of an experimental OCT imaging system to produce in vitro and in vivo images at frame rates of 4 to 8 Hz.

Optically-modulated MEMS Scanning Endoscope for Optical Coherence Tomography
This paper presents a novel configuration of a MEMS scanning endoscope that is actuated by external optical modulation. Light at a wavelength in the 1550nm range is used to modulate a scanning MEMS mirror, and wavelength of 1310nm, commonly used for optical coherence tomography (OCT), is used for the probe beam. This novel approach provides for the operation of a scanning endoscope without the ...

This paper describes an endoscopic-inspired imaging system employing a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) micromirror scanner to achieve beam scanning for optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging. Miniaturization of a scanning mirror using MEMS technology can allow a fully functional imaging probe to be contained in a package sufficiently small for utilization in a working channel of a sta...
متن کاملFabrication of a Micromirror with Sidewall Electrodes
We designed and fabricated a micromirror with sidewall electrodes in the Cornell NanoScale Science & Technology Facility (CNF) for endoscopic application. The micromirror can perform 2-dimensional scanning. The static and dynamic performances of the micromirror are improved over that of a micromirror without sidewall electrodes. In addition, undesired spring-softening effect that is commonly fo...
متن کاملEndoscopic optical coherence tomography with new MEMS mirror - Electronics Letters
Introduction: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a new optical imaging technique that can provide cross-sectional images of biological tissue, highly desirable for imaging diagnosis of superficial lesions [1]. OCT can delineate tissue micro morphology, holding the potential for non-invasive optical biopsy [1, 2]. In recent years, the development of real-time, high-performance, reliable and l...
متن کاملEndoscopic optical coherence tomography with a modified microelectromechanical systems mirror for detection of bladder cancers.
Experimental results of a modified micromachined microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) mirror for substantial enhancement of the transverse laser scanning performance of endoscopic optical coherence tomography (EOCT) are presented. Image distortion due to buckling of MEMS mirror in our previous designs was analyzed and found to be attributed to excessive internal stress of the transverse bimorp...
